New Friendships are just around the Corner

“After buying in the Mt Ommaney area I found myself feeling lonely.  I had put on a few extra kilos and wanted to get fitter, so I joined SHW in 2008.  I was not thinking about meeting other women, I just wanted to get fitter and lose those few extra kilos I had gained.  A little while after I joined one of the other women asked me if I would like to grab a cup of coffee.  I’ve never looked back.  I have lost weight, centimetres and body fat, and gained friends along the way. I have a new lease on life and am not lonely any more.  My bone density has improved, my health both mentally and physically has improved.  I work out most days and look forward to being motivated and supported by the team at SHW.  More importantly I have many new friends and now pay it forward when someone new starts working out I ask them if they would like to join us for coffee.” - Gabi

I can now Achieve so much more, you can too, if you just give it a go

"The prospect of turning 47 (I am now 50) and being a few kilos heavier, the same as every other year since I can remember was my turning point.  Take away, fatty foods and no exercise routine had ruled the later years of my life.  When I stepped on the scales to see I had reached over 90 kilos, I knew it was time to do something. In July 2011 I walked past the SHW sign like I had for the last few years but on this day I thought I have to give it a try.  It was the turning point, the first month I attended 3 days a week, a month in it was 4 days and 7 months later I’m actually enjoying the working out 5 days a week.  The staff and other ladies who attend the facility are fantastic; they are great motivation for every day’s work out.  Even some days when it is easier to sleep in, an early morning phone call from Peta does change your mind and it inspires me to get out of bed to attend.  It’s like having my very own personal trainer each day.

My passion in life is Competition Field Archery; I have attended tournaments all over Australia and the World.  My stamina and concentration levels in these events were starting to take its toll because of my weight and fitness levels.  But since starting at SHW I have the stamina and fitness to walk around the range without getting out of breath, my archery scores have improved out of sight.

I still have a long way to go to reach my goal but so far I have shed over 9 kilos and lost 60 centimetres over all. I have gone from wearing size 16 jeans down to size 12. My aim is not to go back to my old ways and to keep it off, no matter what happens. With the help of the staff at SHW they are helping me stay on track. I take each day as it comes but these days I enjoy my workouts and watching my waist get smaller.

I would recommend this workout to any woman – young or old who would like to improve their fitness. Just give it a try, you might be surprised like I was." - Jeanette

Support is Paramount to Success

"I was heading to fifty like a bullet train, so I figured it was time to make my health a priority. At the time is was the 30th anniversary school reunion and I couldn’t go like I was.  I was overweight, then obese, since starting a family 20 years ago, my Band-Aid fixes weren’t working.  You name it, I’ve done it, I’ve joined the big name weight loss providers multiple times, been to dietitians and I still keep going back to my old habits.  You would believe I was a gym addict years ago, attending classes almost every day.  I could do it all, just not simultaneously or for extended periods of time.  When I was dieting I couldn’t manage to exercise, so would plateau and give up, and when I was exercising I’d up the food intake and there’d be little overall change.  Does this sound like you?

I joined SHW because it was close to home, I didn’t need to worry about how I looked and I could fit 3 sessions a week into my schedule.  It wasn’t a truly successful start, because I wasn’t seeing results, I started eating more. I was the enthusiasm and the results in some of the others on the program and the ongoing support from the fabulous team and decided to stop sabotaging myself and get serious.

I threw myself into the program and was amazed how I was able to now get more workouts into my week and eat exactly what I was supposed to eat at the same time with the support from the team.  I have never included healthy snacks into my diet before.  To me a snack meant an unhealthy treat of some description.  So that was a big change for me.  I like eating big meals, so understanding the ratio of protein, carbs and fat meant I could have great meals and still lose weight.  I am enjoying my fitness sessions more because I understand the benefit to my health, not only that, I can feel it.  I have a shared goal with other members in the sessions and along with the teams encouragement of “one more” and “keep up with me” I am motivated and improving.

On the program I had fabulous losses for 6 weeks and then self-doubt and old habits started creeping back in.  I stumbled for 4 weeks with minor results and instead of giving up on me, Peta each week redirected me to videos, information and personal accounts that pulled me back into the program.  After 10 weeks on the plan, I had lost 9 kilos.  I am still in the overweight category and continuing to have my ups and downs and in my mind the negative thoughts are there every now and again, but I know I have others on the journey with me supporting me all the way." - Fiona

My Health is important to me

"As a woman in my 50's I know it's important to have regular medical reviews.  I am pleased to say my doctor is impressed with my results, sugar levels - great, kidney, liver, heart - great, cholesterol - great, blood pressure of a teenager, improved bone density, I should stop while I'm ahead. I starting thinking about what I would be like if I didn't workout. I understand that exercising is part of my life now, it is essential to maintain good health, keep me out of hospital, I don't want to be a statistic. I remember back to what I could or couldn't do when I first started, I have made so much progress. I can actually do a push up now. After my workouts I have heaps of energy and feel great.  I know it's about acceptance as you age, I'm not 20, my body has changed, it's about staying healthy and strong.  Women my age are more aware of our health and do what we can to stay well." - Wendy

There's more to Healthy Eating than I knew

"I have been a member since 2006 and exercised regularly to keep my joints moving.  I had put on a lot of weight during chemotherapy a couple of years ago, and it kept gradually rising, even though I exercised and didn’t eat “junk” food the weight continued to creep up. It was with some trepidation in 2013 I embarked on the nutrition plan with the team at SHW. All that protein! Little did I realise that I would relish eating cottage cheese for breakfast.  Now I understand I was eating a little too much too often, too many carbs and not enough protein. In 90 days on the plan, I am over eight kilos lighter and feel great and so do my dodgy knee joints.  It’s lovely to fit into my clothes again – it is like greeting old friends.  I enjoyed following the nutrition plan. It was easy to follow, and I was never hungry.  I managed to weather lots of celebrations during the 90 days – birthdays, Easter and I still lost weight. I still have some weight to lose, but I now know how to do it.  Many thanks to Peta for her expert coaching, warm encouragement and unflagging enthusiasm." - Gaynor
